  • Kia Motors Corporation of Seoul, South Korea, is founded as a manufacturer of steel tubing and bicycle parts

    Kia Motors Corporation becomes the first automaker to receive Korea’s ‘Total Quality Control’ (TQC) Grand Prize at the 17th National Quality Control and Standardisation Contest. Equivalent to Japan’s Deming Prize and the USA’s Malcolm Baldridge Award, the Korean honour is the most prestigious of its kind in the country
